In our latest PsyMood web series our host Chaplain Ross Wilson spoke to two of our specialists on the platform about Mental Fitness. Music therapist Tiffany Sparrow and Katie Bushie, a retired social worker, now pyschopractionier, shared their experiences working with their patients on journeys of mindfulness and meditation to enable them to have good Mental Fitness.
What is Mental Fitness?
Mental Fitness is a fairly new term within the mental health community which describes having a well maintained state of mental well-being. This can involve being self aware in our own ways of thinking and feeling in order to actively cultivate a more positive and healthy mindset. It highlights the interconnectivity between the body and mind and many practitioners stress the importance of the ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ outlook.
Improving your Mental Fitness

However, at PsyMood we are here to support everyone on there road to positive mental health with specialists on hand to support you that speak your native language and understand your cultural background. Healthy body, healthy mind
You may have heard this common phrase within the mental health community and it is in fact correct. So much of how we treat our bodies effects our mental state. A good balanced diet and a routine which allows us plenty of sleep can significantly impact how our brains function and in turn, their ability to manage our emotions in a rational and beneficial way.
Self awareness and reflection
A big part of mental fitness is about reflecting on your past actions as well as being aware of how your behaviour may be affecting your ability to feel positive about yourself. Practicing self awareness if a great way to comprehend how and why you react to challenging situations and what you could do to improve on this in order to keep a positive mind.
