Experiencing a distressing event leads to emotional consequences that can impact permanently an individual's life.
PsyMood is a platform that connects individuals to specialists based on their language and cultural backgrounds.
In this webinar we invited Registered Psychotherapist and certified child/youth practitioner Alethia Cadore, and Nelson Leoni, an expert in resilience and motivational speaker, to discuss resilience, and the importance of mental health support to overcome traumas, disabilities and diversity.
Going through traumas is always hard. Experiencing a distressing event leads to emotional consequences that can impact permanently an individual’s life, such as excessive fear and shame, and reduced ability to regulate emotions and navigate relationships. It can even cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition with symptoms including flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
People also experience trauma in different ways. Some individuals develop more resilient responses to traumatic events, while others get seriously affected. The impact of trauma depends on a number of factors that may vary from the characteristics of the individual and nature of the event to sociocultural aspects. For example, culture influences how they interpret the effects of adverse life experiences and convey traumatic stress through behaviour, emotions and thinking.
