Valentine’s Around the World

Valentine’s Day is a day that is dedicated to expressing love and affection towards others, particularly significant others, such as romantic partners, spouses, or even your friends. People express their love by usually exchanging gifts, flowers, or cards. Valentine’s Day is celebrated in different ways across the world. Here are some popular ways it is celebrated in some countries:

United States and Canada: In the US, and Canada, Valentine’s Day is celebrated as a romantic holiday where couples exchange gifts, chocolates, cards, and flowers, and have candlelit dinners.

France: In France, Valentine’s Day is known as “La Saint-Valentin” and is celebrated as a romantic holiday. Couples exchange gifts and go out for romantic meals, and it’s traditional to give a lover a bouquet of red roses or write a love letter.

Italy: In Italy, Valentine’s Day is celebrated as a romantic holiday and is known as “San Valentino”. Couples exchange gifts and go out for romantic meals, and it’s traditional to give a lover a bouquet of red roses or write a love letter.

Japan: In Japan, Valentine’s Day is celebrated a bit differently. It’s traditional for women to give chocolates to their male friends, family, and co-workers as a sign of affection. On White Day, which is celebrated a month later, men give gifts to the women who gave them chocolates on Valentine’s Day.

South Korea: In South Korea, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in a similar way to Japan. Women give chocolates to men, and on White Day, men return the favor with gifts of their own.

Finland: In Finland, Valentine’s Day is called “Ystävänpäivä” which means “Friend’s Day”. It’s a day to celebrate not just romantic love but also the love between friends and family. People exchange cards and gifts with those they love.

Brazil: Valentine’s Day in Brazil is celebrated on June 12, and it is actually called Dia dos Namorados. Similar to Canada, gifts and romantic gestures are exchanged.
