How To Cope With Current Events

There is a lot of fear circulating in the news streams. Whether it be about the coronavirus, politics or the death of George Floyd. This constant bombardment of news can cause uncertainty, which may lead to stress and anxiety. 

While being in a lockdown, it is more difficult than usual to cope with all these events and news, especially since you can’t seek comfort from your friends and family outside your home. That being said, we have come up with some tips to help you cope with the stress in the news.

Be Kind To Yourself

Now is the time more than ever where you need to be your own number 1 fan. You need to believe in yourself and give yourself the compassion you deserve. When we are alone or afraid is when we tend to be the hardest on ourselves.

During this time give yourself credit for even the little things. You did the dishes? Great job. Did you finish an assignment at work? AMAZING! All these little things can add up and lead to you feeling more happy and optimistic. 

Meditate or Seek Professional Help

Meditation is a great way to help get away from the stress and anxiety in our lives. Try to meditate for at least 5 minutes a day when you are feeling overwhelmed. There are many free ways to meditate and learn about mediation. It may be a little tricky at first, but give it a chance. You, your mind, and your body will thank you.

Take Media Breaks

This is a very important tip. Where your TV screens are floating with news, and your social media platforms are bombarding you with statistics and facts about what is going on, simply take a break. Go outside for a walk and get some fresh air.

It is okay to stay updated with current events, but there is time to take a break and enjoy the now. 

Focus Your Mind On Other Things
