Mental Health Tips: Perform a Random Act Of Kindness

It doesn’t matter where you come from or the language you speak. Kindness matters and can be considered as a universal language. It may be to your surprise that being kind can actually have a positive effect on your mental health. This works both ways. You may not be able to tell how someone is feeling, or the struggles they are going through just by their exterior behaviour.

When someone receives a random act of kindness, that can turn their whole day around. The same goes for when someone is giving that random act of kindness. You receive immediate gratification, which results in having more self-confidence and feeling overall better about yourself.

This is because the act of kindness releases a chemical in your body called serotonin. This is what gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

We have listed some ways you can perform an act of kindness during a pandemic:

Call A Friend or Family Member

This is a good time to reach out to a friend or family member that you haven’t talked to in a while. Just seeing your name pop up on their phone can bring a smile to their face.

Donate To A Charity

Knowing that you can help a great cause of your choice will not only make you feel happy but also help those who are in need! It’s a win/win situation.

Do a Chore Around the House

Helping out around the house can really make a difference! By simply putting away the dishes, or taking out the trash can make someone’s day and help them feel less stressed and overwhelmed.

Give Praise To a Colleague

Just a simple “Good Job” can really make someone feel great about themselves. It is uplifting to realize that people around you see the good work they are doing!

Send Someone A Funny Joke

Humour is a great way to make someone smile, laugh and forget about their problems. Best of all, you may find yourself laughing too!
